Ways to Keep Your New Puppy Happy and Healthy

April 27, 2019 By liv parmel

Raising a new puppy can be a very fun and rewarding experience. It can also be challenging, as puppies require lots of attention, patience, and love. There are many ways to keep your new puppy happy and healthy, all of which are very important.

Clean and Safe Surroundings

When you bring your new puppy home, you will want to make sure he or she has a clean, safe environment to live in. This should include a soft, clean sleeping area free of potentially hazardous materials and excess noise. You should allow your new puppy to explore its new home as well. This will let your puppy familiarize itself with its new territory. Always keep anything dangerous out of reach from your puppy, as puppies are extremely mischievous creatures. A safe and sound environment will help to keep your new puppy calm and happy.

Quality Food

It is very important to feed your new puppy a quality food. A food free of added dyes, by-products, and artificial flavors will help reduce the risk of food allergies and sensitivity. Also, many cheaper foods can cause ear infections and other health problems in dogs. Starting your puppy on a quality food will help it grow into a healthy, strong dog, and you won’t have to worry about food-related issues. You should provide fresh, clean drinking water for your puppy at all times as well.

Pet Insurance

You may not think of pet insurance as something you need for a new puppy, but it can be a great thing to have. Pet insurance will reimburse you for veterinary bills should your dog become ill or injured. With the rising costs and advancements in the world of veterinary care, this can be extremely helpful. If you are thinking about purchasing pet insurance for your new puppy, there are many places to find pet insurance quotes online. These sites provide you with information and quotes from multiple companies, which helps you choose the right pet insurance policy for your needs and price range.

Veterinary Care

Proper veterinary care is essential to your new puppy’s quality of life. As soon as your puppy is old enough, it should be given the recommended set of immunizations. These immunizations will protect your puppy from serious and often deadly diseases. Your puppy should also be tested for worms, including heartworm. Your veterinarian will then recommend preventative medication to protect your puppy from these parasites. Last but not least, your puppy should be given medication to prevent flea and tick infestation. Always check with your vet to find out the proper age to start administering these medications. If you give certain medications too early, it can seriously harm your animal.

Grooming

You should always give your new puppy a bath when it needs one, as this will keep its skin and coat in good condition. Brushing your puppy on a regular basis is also a good idea. Regular brushing will help prevent mats in its fur and help with shedding issues. If you have a long-haired breed of dog, it is a good idea to get its fur trimmed regularly. Keeping your puppy properly groomed will help to keep it happy and healthy.

Exercise

Puppies have high levels of energy and should be given time to run and play daily. You should also provide your puppy with toys that are appropriate for its age range. This is because puppies are notorious chewers and can choke on things easily. Your new puppy will enjoy having toys of its own to love and play with. As your puppy grows into an adult dog, regular exercise is still a must and will keep your dog in good physical health for years to come.

Love

Most importantly, your new puppy needs lots of love, affection, and attention. Puppies that have loving, caring homes will grow up to be happy dogs that are well-mannered and obedient. Also, if you give your puppy proper attention, there is less of a chance it will get bored and get into something it shouldn’t. You should never get a puppy if you aren’t ready to give it the love and attention it needs.

If you are thinking of getting a new puppy, you should definitely take these things into consideration. Puppies are fun and loving creatures that require a lot of time and work. If you can provide your new puppy with everything it needs, it should grow into a happy and healthy adult dog that will provide you with years of companionship.

Puppies are very delicate creatures. Therefore, they need special attention and puppy care from you. The first few weeks are very crucial as you’ll need to know exactly what need to be done. You should already found your trusted vet by now and have some ideas of what kind of puppy care you need to perform such as vaccination, cleaning, as well activities to do with them.

when to bathe a new puppy

During the first few weeks, it is advisable not to let your puppy play for a period longer than an hour. Young puppies need plenty of rest as their body has just started to adjust to a new environment and they get tired easily. Just play with them for a while and later place them back in their playpen so they can eat and rest. If they play too much and too long, they will get very tired and this will disrupt their eating pattern. Eventually, it will lead to behavioral as well as health problem in the future. Avoid over-indulging your puppy by giving him too many treats. He will stop eating his nutritious puppy food, gain weight and have less energy.

Also, when you take the young puppy away from their parents, brother and sisters, they will feel lonely and scared. Try to make the first couple weeks as calm as possible for the puppy. Play with them and give them your utmost attention and love. Also, it will be wise not to bring them out to the crowded places or your friends and relatives houses until they grew a little bit older.

There will many setback along the way to care for your puppy but if you persist; You will have a wonderful companion that are loyal, friendly, and cuddly that you can always relies on.
